Mercredi : Secrets et mystères de la série Netflix

Introduction

Presentation

The series Wednesday (original title Wednesday) was launched on Netflix with the Nevermore Academy, a school for “outsiders,” as its backdrop. It stars Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia), Luis Guzmán (Gomez), and other characters from the legendary Addams universe.
The series combines dark humor, fantasy elements, mystery, and a distinctive aesthetic, perfect for audiences who love pop culture, polished visuals, and slightly offbeat stories.

The Seasons and Suites

Season 1

Season 1 introduces the universe: Wednesday joins Nevermore, and must navigate her powers, her identity, her family, and a series of mysterious murders. The balance between homage to the Addams saga and modernization was appealing.

Season 2

In this season, Wednesday is now a star despite herself (following her exploits in season 1) and must face a new threat, while further exploring family ties, the Academy, and her own powers.

Season 3 (coming soon)

The series has been officially renewed for a third season.
The creators have stated that they want to speed up production to avoid a long gap between seasons.

The main characters

• Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega): the main character, sarcastic, intelligent, gifted with psychic powers, and far from being frightened by the strange.

• Morticia Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones): the mother, elegant, strong, charismatic, with a complex relationship with her daughter and the family legacy.

• Gomez Addams (Luis Guzmán): the father, faithful to the Addams spirit, but sometimes less exploited than other characters.

• Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers): Wednesday's friend/roommate at Nevermore, full of optimism, but also hiding her own secrets.

• Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan): a student at Nevermore, an ambiguous character whose development is intriguing.

And other characters: the Nevermore community, the teachers, the “outsiders,” the extended Addams family—all play significant roles.

Why watch Wednesday?

Strong visual atmosphere: the polished Gothic aesthetic and homage to the Addams Family universe are part of the series' strength.

Memorable heroine: Mercredi is funny, quirky, mysterious, and endearing, perfect for a teenage/adult audience.

• Genre blend: fantasy, mystery, teen drama, dark humor, for those who enjoy stories filled with references and atmosphere.

A series that is fully in line with current series culture: references, modern narrative codes, and a well-developed universe that appeal to a wide audience.

Interesting development: Season 2 takes the stakes even higher, and the promise of Season 3 shows that it's not over yet.

Overall public opinion and criticism

Season 1 of Wednesday won over audiences with its gothic aesthetic, dark humor, and Jenna Ortega's remarkable performance.

Season 2, on the other hand, has received a more mixed reception:

while many praise its darker atmosphere, polished production, and more developed Nevermore universe, several critics point to a plot that is sometimes too busy and a pace that is less balanced than in the first season.

Despite this, the series remains extremely popular, maintains excellent ratings, and continues to generate enough enthusiasm to guarantee a highly anticipated Season 3.

Our Opinion

Although I was never particularly drawn to the old version of The Addams Family, I was pleasantly surprised by this modern adaptation. The universe is more accomplished, better constructed, and significantly more immersive. The story, reworked and updated, is more realistic and much more captivating, making you really want to continue watching the series.

Although the second season may seem more difficult to finish due to its sometimes uneven pace, it remains visually stunning. Jenna Ortega, meanwhile, delivers another remarkable performance: she carries the role with rare ease and confirms her status as an exceptional actress. The new monsters, the confrontations, and the staging further enhance the overall quality of the series.

Ultimately, this modernized version is much more appealing than the previous one and makes you want to dive back in episode after episode.

4,5/5 ★★★★⯪

Conclusion

The Wednesday series, with its second season and the announcement of a third, is clearly one to watch if you're a fan of stylized series, teen mysteries, and visually striking worlds.

It has successfully revamped a classic (The Addams Family), breathing new life into it with certain strengths (aesthetics, strong characters) and a few weaknesses (plot management, pacing).

If you're just getting started, season 1 is a must-see; season 2 has a lot to offer but may require a little attention to fully enjoy; and with season 3 announced, the adventure isn't over yet.
